About Us

The Wheel Arounds

We are a group of singles and couples who love to dance, learn, and have fun! Also, we love snacks! And welcoming keen new dancers! LGBTQ+ folks welcome and in good company.

Our square and round dance group started in 2013 when Bob Simpson and Dorothy Simpson took up calling and cueing.

Our Teachers/Callers/Cuers

Bob Simpson

Square Dance Caller

Bob loves the puzzle of making good choreography sequences as well as the fun of belting out a good tune on the stage. He is always learning, whether he’s dancing, going to a caller school, or just playing with a move in a different way. He has called and taught Mainstream, Plus, and A1 levels.

Darby Love

Square Dance Caller & Round Dance Cuer

Darby hadn’t even though about square dancing after the mandatory unit in high school gym until she decided she needed a good Westcoast winter hobby in 2014. It didn’t take Bob long to figure out she could sing, and the rest just followed from there. Square dancing skipped a generation in her family between her and her grandparents in the Fraser Valley, but she’s still working on her mom starting anyway.

Dorothy Simpson

Round Dance Cuer

Dorothy can’t stop adding new music to her repertoire. She loves to cue all kinds of music for her dancers, from Little Big Town, to Roy Orbison, to classic waltzes. Rhythms Dorothy cues include waltz, two-step, and rumba/cha-cha. She has a reputation for picking lively songs and may sometimes accidentally play her music a bit quick-ish.

Mike Munro

Square Dance Caller

Mike started dancing with his wife Nancy in 2014 in the same class as Darby. Bob noticed that Mike had good awareness of what was happening in the square, and it also turns out that he’s a magnificent singer! He currently teaches all of our beginner square dance classes, with some little get aways to visit family including young grandchildren.
